Uwb Imaging for Breast Cancer Detection Using Neural Network

چکیده
This paper presents a simple feed-forward backpropagation Neural Network (NN) model to detect and locate early breast cancer/tumor efficiently through the investigation of Electromagnetic (EM) waves. A spherical tumor of radius 0.25 cm was created and placed at arbitrary locations in a breast model using an EM simulator. Directional antennas were used to transmit and receive Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) signals in 4 to 8GHz frequency range. Small training and validation sets were constructed to train and test the NN. The received signals were fed into the trained NN model to find the presence and location of tumor. Very optimistic results (about 100% and 94.4% presence and location detection rate of tumor respectively) have been observed for early received signal components with the NN model. Hence, the proposed model is very potential for early tumor detection to save human lives in the future.

متن کاملA Miniaturized CPW-Fed Tapered Slot Antenna in Lossy Environment for UWB Application in Breast Cancer Detection
In this paper, a miniaturized coplanar waveguide fed (CPW-fed) tapered slot antenna (TSA) is introduced for breast cancer detection. Here, a modified CPW to slot-line transition structure with an air-bridge is employed to broaden the transition bandwidth and increase the radiation efficiency. Through these applied modifications, negative features of the original TSA (limitation of transition) a...
متن کاملA review of neural network detection methods for breast cancer: review article
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the earlier it is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat. The most common way to diagnose breast cancer is mammography. Mammography is a simple chest x-ray and a tool for early detection of non-palpable breast cancers and tumors. However, due to some limitations of this method such as low sensitivity especially in dense breasts, other method...

A low-cost and portable vector network analyzer (VNA) which covered operating frequency between 1MHz to 3GHz is used for vector reflection coefficient and standing wave ratio (swr) of the various microstrip antennas. This paper presents measurements of various ultra wideband (uwb) microstrip antennas for applications in biomedical field. Selection of antenna is an important key for detection of...
متن کاملEvaluation of Limestone Layer’s Effect for Uwb Microwave Imaging of Breast Models Using Neural Network
X-ray mammography is widely used for detection of breast cancer. Besides its popularity, this method did not have the potential of discriminating a tumor covered with limestone from a pure limestone mass. This might cause misdetection of some tumors covered with limestone or unnecessary surgery for a pure limestone mass. In this study, Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) signals are used for the imaging. A f...
متن کاملDetection and Classification of Breast Cancer in Mammography Images Using Pattern Recognition Methods
Introduction: In this paper, a method is presented to classify the breast cancer masses according to new geometric features. Methods: After obtaining digital breast mammogram images from the digital database for screening mammography (DDSM), image preprocessing was performed. Then, by using image processing methods, an algorithm was developed for automatic extracting of masses from other norma...
